On July 29, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Samagam 2023, commemorating the third anniversary of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. During his speech, PM Modi emphasized India’s increasing significance as a hub of opportunities, with multiple countries expressing interest in establishing IIT campuses, and global universities considering setting up campuses in India.
Platform for Knowledge Sharing and Best Practices
The two-day Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Samagam serves as a platform for academics, experts, policymakers, industry representatives, teachers, and students to exchange insights and best practices in implementing NEP 2020. The event aims to strategize and advance the national education policy further.
Focus on a Futuristic Approach
PM Modi stressed the importance of adopting a futuristic approach in education, especially with technologies like artificial intelligence becoming integral to daily life. He called for reducing academic pressure on students and introducing subjects like disaster management, climate change, and clean energy in schools. The Prime Minister highlighted that all languages would receive equal respect, and education, including engineering studies, would be offered in Indian languages as per NEP 2020.
PM SHRI Scheme for Inclusive Education
PM Modi launched the PM Schools for Rising India (SHRI) scheme, which aims to develop more than 14,500 schools across the country. These schools will nurture students to become engaged, productive, and contributing citizens in line with the goals of NEP 2020.
Promoting Language Inclusivity
The Prime Minister emphasized the significance of language inclusivity in education and stated that judging students based on language instead of talent is unjust. He appreciated NEP 2020 for promoting education in mother tongues, providing real justice to the youth. The event witnessed the release of 100 education and skill curriculum books translated into 12 Indian languages, aligning with the NEP’s vision of providing equal respect and opportunities to all languages.
India’s Global Capabilities
PM Modi highlighted India’s strengths in software technology and space tech, emphasizing the nation’s low-cost and high-quality model, which is gaining recognition on the global stage.
The Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Samagam is a significant occasion celebrating India’s strides in education and its vision for an inclusive and transformative future.
