In a significant collaboration, Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has joined hands with the Kalipatnapu Foundation to introduce an admirable initiative – the creation of 40 scholarships tailored for undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) students specializing in chemistry at the Institute of Science. This noble endeavor is made possible by the generous contribution of Rs 1 Crore from the Kalipatnapu Foundation and stands as a tribute to the late Kalipatnapu Kondiah, a distinguished alumnus and educator at BHU.*
*Kalipatnapu Kondiah, who earned his BSc and MSc degrees at BHU, later assumed a faculty position within the Chemistry department, where he served from 1922 to 1941. His commitment to India’s freedom movement resulted in a five-year imprisonment in 1941. After his release, he ventured to establish a chemical factory in Andhra Pradesh, playing a significant role in India’s journey towards self-reliance.*
*Championing this scholarship endeavor is the Kalipatnapu Foundation, established by his family, including his son Dr. Indusekhar Rao Kalipatnapu, his late daughter Smt. Indira Devi, and his grandson Chaitanya Kalipatnapu.*
*During a formal ceremony, BHU’s Registrar, Professor Arun Singh, and Indushekhar Rao solidified the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the presence of Vice Chancellor Professor Sudhir Jain and other distinguished members of the Kalipatnapu family. Professor Jain lauded the Foundation and the family for their generous contribution, underscoring how such initiatives empower BHU to passionately fulfill its mission of offering quality education to deserving students, particularly those facing financial constraints.*
