Aditya Singh, a final-year Computer Science MTech student at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Warangal, achieved a remarkable milestone by securing an annual job offer of INR 88 lakh. This accomplishment not only shattered previous placement records at NIT-W but also surpassed the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IIT-H) in terms of high-paying job offers.
Aditya’s journey to this extraordinary achievement was a testament to his perseverance and resilience. He encountered numerous rejections during his job search, but his unwavering determination led him to a final opportunity with a Bengaluru-based company. After three intensive interview rounds, he emerged as the sole candidate chosen for a position he initially considered beyond his reach.
Despite facing challenges, Aditya’s commitment to academic excellence was unwavering. Although he scored only 75% in Class 10, he embarked on a transformative path, achieving an impressive 96% in Class 12. This substantial improvement paved the way for his admission to NIT-Warangal, where he pursued an MTech in Computer Science.
Aditya’s success story was marked by an unexpected placement opportunity at the campus. His decision to participate in the company’s placement round, combined with diligent self-study, played a crucial role in his outstanding achievement. Aditya also honed his coding skills during the lockdown, benefiting from the expertise of his brother, an IIIT Allahabad student.
As of April 2023, NIT Warangal’s placement season recorded remarkable success, with a total of 1400 full-time employment offers extended to students, a substantial increase from the previous year’s total of 1200. Over 450 internship offers were also secured across various programs. The Centre for Career Planning and Development (CCPD) at NIT-W played a pivotal role in achieving an impressive 82% placement rate.
Aditya Singh’s achievement stands as a testament to NIT-W’s performance, outperforming counterparts at IIT Hyderabad. While an IIT-H MTech candidate secured an INR 63.8 lakh annual package, Aditya’s INR 88 lakh offer underscores NIT-W’s strength. The institute has consistently improved its placement statistics over the years, with its highest package surpassing that of IITs.
NIT-W reported a substantial increase in the average package for computer science graduates, with the 2022-23 average salary rising from INR 25.5 lakh to INR 31.9 lakh. Similarly, students specializing in electronics and communication and electrical and electronics engineering witnessed significant growth in their average salary packages.
In contrast, Phase-1 of placements at IIT-H saw 474 candidates securing 508 job offers, with an average package of INR 19.5 lakh. In response, IIT-H director BS Murty emphasized the primary role of IITs in providing quality education and guidance, with placements being a secondary objective.
Aditya Singh’s exceptional journey serves as a powerful source of inspiration for students and underdogs across the nation, highlighting the rewards of determination and dedication.
