IIT Gandhinagar Offers Fellowship To PhD Students With ₹ 1 Lakh Stipend

 

 

*The Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar (IIT-Gandhinagar), is currently open to applications for its 2023 Early-Career Fellowship (IITGN-ECF), tailored to engage emerging doctoral candidates in collaborative research ventures. This unique fellowship provides recent PhD graduates with the opportunity to collaborate with IIT Gandhinagar faculty on research projects, enabling them to make substantial contributions to their respective fields. The application deadline for this fellowship is December 15, 2023.*

 

*Fellows selected for this program will receive a monthly stipend of ₹1,00,000, comprising ₹90,000 for living expenses and an additional ₹10,000 for housing (HRA) if they opt not to use on-campus accommodation. Beyond the stipend, fellows gain access to a professional development grant of up to ₹2 lakhs annually. This grant can be utilized for international travel to attend conferences, workshops, training programs, and more. Those relocating from overseas have the option to seek travel reimbursement for themselves, their spouse, and dependents, along with transportation costs for household goods, capped at ₹1,00,000. It’s important to note that reimbursement is subject to the submission of relevant travel receipts. Air travel is limited to economy class, and reimbursement is contingent upon the fellow’s commitment to a minimum of six months of association with IIT-Gandhinagar.*

 

*Regarding the fellowship’s duration, it is initially awarded for one year, with the potential for a one-year extension if the fellow demonstrates exceptional performance, resulting in a maximum fellowship period of two years.*

 

*This fellowship primarily targets individuals aspiring to pursue an academic career. Eligible candidates should have successfully defended their doctoral thesis at an institution in India or abroad on or after January 1, 2023. Their research work should be well-regarded and substantiated by scholarly publications. Applicants who have already submitted their doctoral thesis or plan to do so in the coming months are encouraged to apply. Both Indian citizens and Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) cardholders are eligible for application.*

 

*In the application process, candidates are required to collaborate with an IITGN faculty member to formulate a research proposal in a specified format. This proposal outlines their research and career objectives and must receive approval from the faculty collaborator. Applicants are encouraged to directly reach out to the faculty member.*

 

*Additionally, candidates must submit a personal statement detailing their aspirations and what they aim to accomplish during the Fellowship. Applicants are not limited to their field of discipline and can submit a single application.*

 

*Faculty members have the flexibility to endorse multiple proposals, and applicants from IIT Gandhinagar can choose to collaborate with a faculty member other than their PhD supervisor if they share a common research interest.*
